Last night was another big night for music, as all the greats came together to the 2013 BRIT Awards. Like the Grammys a few weeks ago, this event brought out the best in music. Frank Ocean once again grabbed the spotlight when he won International Male Solo Artist. The always popular Adele won Best British Single, while Mumford and Sons continued their Grammy night success by winning Best British Group.
Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift, among others, also put on a show with their live performances, performing "Mirrors" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" respectively.
Music has been great this past year as proven by both the Grammys and last night's BRIT Awards; it only can go up from here.

On Saturday, Beyonce's documentary "Life is But a Dream" premiered on HBO, revealing intimate moments about the star's life, including when she let her dad go as her manager, her miscarriage, and her journey with Blue Ivy. It also includes more public moments like performance footage and scenes from her in the recording studio. The biggest shock of the night came when Blue Ivy was shown—the first clear picture since she was a baby. "Life is But a Dream" focuses on her challenge of balancing her public and private life and really lets you see what life as Beyonce is like, and how sometimes, it's not that much different from someone's life who isn't a global sensation.
Keep the Valentine's Day love going this weekend with our Valentine's Spotify Weekend Mix. There's 60 minutes of romantic songs, like "Valentine" by Lloyd and "Thinkin Bout You" from Frank Ocean - all you're missing are the roses and dinner!

Nothing says NYC like the Subway; we use it to get everywhere - you get on and one stop later you're at the Barclays Center watching a Net's game. So what could be more fun than the very first underground trivia night at the New York Transit Museum in Downtown Brooklyn tonight from 7-9. Brooklyn Brewery will be providing the drinks as you test your knowledge of music, culture and movies all centered around a transit theme. Don't miss out on this underground first.
2013 is looking to be a great year in music. We're only halfway through January and already there has been a lot of great new music to hit the airwaves. We've picked out our top 5 new releases of 2013 - have a listen:
Frank Ocean featuring OutKast – Pink Matter (Remix)
Miguel – Sure Thing (WiSkiM Remix)
Ciara – Wake Up, Turn Up
Future - Fo Real Feat. Drake
A$AP Rocky featuring Skrillex & Birdy Nam Nam – Wild For The Night
Justin Timberlake just announced a new upcoming album, so to celebrate, we've put together a Spotify list of some of our favorite JT jams including SexyBack, Cry Me a River, and What Goes Around…Comes Around.
One year after the birth of Blue Ivy, Beyonce was named GQ's sexiest woman of the century, and in their interview, we get to see what living as "Miss Millennium" is like.
We get to hear from Solange, her sister, how Beyonce has always been determined to accomplish her dreams--after every performance, like an athlete, she'll watch the recording while reviewing and making note of everything from her singing and dancing, to her hair and outfit. The most interesting thing we learn is that every aspect of her life, from as far back as when she was with Destiny's Child, is documented either in film or photo, and is all stored in a climate-controlled storage facility. From her recent deal with Pepsi, her soon-to-be headlining of the halftime show at the Super Bowl, and her new HBO visual autobiography premiering February 16, Beyonce doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon!

Not only does Hotel BPM have a fresh new look with the new bar and DJ booth, we also like to keep things fresh in the kitchen with our complimentary breakfasts. We've noticed a lot of the great reviews on TripAdvisor hailing Angel, our cook, so we got the inside scoop on what makes Hotel BPM breakfasts so delicious.
One of our simple, but favorite dishes are the scrambled eggs. Every day, delivered fresh, our master chefs crack and scramble them by hand - much different from other hotels who reheat pre-scrambled eggs.
The most popular dish with our guests by far is the turkey sausage with french toast. Since it's so high in demand, we've got a recipe for french toast that you can make to tide you over until you can taste them here yourself:
1/2 cup 2% milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 slices bread
Maple syrup or cinnamon-sugar
In a shallow bowl, beat eggs; add the milk, sugar, vanilla and salt. Soak bread for 30 seconds on each side. Cook on a greased hot griddle until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. Serve with syrup or cinnamon-sugar. Yield: 2 servings.
No matter what you decide to eat at our hotel, you can be sure our professional chefs, like Angel, will be hand-cooking you a delicious, hot, and fresh breakfast. Be sure to book a room and try our warm breakfast for yourself!
This week's Spotify Weekend Mix is all about Brooklyn. Turn up the music with BK hits from Jay-Z, M.O.P., and Danger Mouse.
Every time January comes around, everyone always makes New Year's Resolutions, and let's face it, usually we end up keeping those resolutions for a few weeks and thats it. We're here to help you by offering up some suggestions of what to do and where to go in Brooklyn to help make keeping your resolutions a breeze.
Resolution: Stay in shape
Part of staying in shape includes eating right, and Brooklyn offers up several delicious organic and vegan restaurants including the Clementine Bakery in Fort Greene, and The V-Spot in Park Slope. Brooklyn also has several parks which are great for a leisurely walk, including Sunset park right by Hotel BPM.
Resolution: Have more fun/enjoy life
Every week there is a whole variety of Brooklyn events to choose from including fashion, summer outdoor movies, and even a Brewed in Brooklyn Tour. For the music and party scene, you can enjoy Hotel BPM's live DJs while sipping on some complimentary beer and sangria on the weekends. From there you can hit up the Barclays Center (only one stop away) which will be playing host to several big time artists this year including Lady Gaga, Swedish House Mafia, and Rihanna.
Resolution: Save money
There are plenty of free or inexpensive things to do around Brooklyn. There's always the Brooklyn Flea in Williamsburg which offers up a variety of goods including clothes and other hand-made items that are sure to please anyone. For some inexpensive drinking, try the Sunday Sesh at the Brooklyn Winery.
Whatever your resolution is this year, Brooklyn has everything you will need to help you keep it.

TOP 5 FESTIVE HOLIDAY COCKTAILS
The holidays are quickly approaching and that means that it's holiday cocktail time! We've got Hotel BPM's 5 favorite holiday cocktail recipes:
The Grasshopper Cocktail
1 ounce green crème de menthe (don’t use the white/clear variety)
1 ounce crème de cacao (use the white/clear — not the brown variety)
1 ounce heavy cream
a small candy cane as garnish (optional, but attractive)
Combine all ingredients (except garnish) in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or so, until the drink is cold. Be sure to shake well! This helps increase the foaminess of the cream, which creates a more attractive drink.
Strain into a cocktail glass (preferably one that has been chilled).
Add a candy cane garnish if desired, and serve
White sugar crystals, preferably coarse
2 cups store-bought eggnog, chilled
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
4 cinnamon stick
Dampen the rims of 4 martini glasses and then line the rims with sugar crystals. Combine eggnog, brandy, amaretto, nutmeg, and ice cream in a blender; process until smooth. Pour mixture into martini glasses and garnish each glass with a whole cinnamon stick.
Prosecco Juice Cocktail
Fill ¼ of the flute with juice (or more, if you like) – orange, peach, berry, cherry, pomegranate, passion fruit, lychee – and fill the rest of the glass with prosecco.
Garnish with fresh fruit, either on the rim or dropped into the glass.
12 oz Skyy Vodka
1 (750-mL) bottle Dry red wine
1.5 tbsp Mulling spices, wrapped in cheesecloth
1 tsp Fresh orange zest
2 tbsp Sugar
Add all the ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer very lightly for at least 30 minutes (do not boil). Remove and discard the mulling spices. Serve in mugs, garnishing each with a few raisins and blanched almonds.
.66 oz Grand Marnier
.66 oz Cranberry juice
.66 oz Passion fruit juice or puree
2 oz Moet Champagne
Add Grand Marnier, cranberry juice, passion fruit juice or puree to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled Champagne flute. Top with Moet Champagne and garnish with an orange spiral twist.
If you love the idea of a cocktail but aren't a mixologist, fear not, as there are several places to find a good holiday cocktail in Brooklyn, including Clover Club NY in Cobble Hill, Rye Restaurant, and DuMont Burger. If cocktails aren't your thing, then Hotel BPM will be serving up beer and wine on the 28th, 29th, and 31st, not to mention our open bar every Friday and Saturday night for all the hotel guests. There's plenty to do and see in Brooklyn and Manhattan. You can watch Wicked, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, or any other great show on Broadway, or in Brooklyn, the American Ballet Theater's The Nutcracker. Nothing says the holidays like heading out to the Rockefeller Tree Lighting, or skating at The Rink at Rockefeller or the Abe Stark Rink in Brooklyn. December is always a great time to go window shopping in NYC as all the Christmas window displays are lit up at stores including Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Barneys. If you want to do some early gift shopping, your Brooklyn holiday markets are perfect for that. Brooklyn Flea's Annual Gifted Holiday Market and the Brooklyn Craft Central Annual Holiday Market are great places to go if you're looking for some good food, drink, gifts for friends, or maybe even a little something for yourself!
For some great music, check out Trey Songz, the Z100 Jingle Ball (which is only 5 stops away on the D train), or The MMG Tour in Manhattan. In Brooklyn, you can get into the holiday spirit with Holiday Jazz and Gospel Choir's Christmakwanzahanukah, or see Andrea Bocelli at the Barclays Center.
When the clock strikes 12 at midnight on New Years Eve, everyones knows Times Square is definitely an amazing place to be, but what about the Grand Army fireworks in Brooklyn? And if you'd rather be partying than standing around in the cold, Mister Saturday Night is having a party that will be one to remember. To ring in the new year the right way check out Jay Z and Coldplay at the Barclays Center.
Instagram has debuted its very own web profiles, which are set up similar to Facebook, including a cover photo which rotates your images through. Now you can see all of your friend's Instagram photos, and even comment and like them. Check out the Hotel BPM profile page and be sure to follow us! This weekend we have a fun and upbeat mix featuring Lupe Fiasco, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Hot Chelle Rae. Relax, turn the beats up, and enjoy!

Some of the many artists who will be there include Nick Catchdubs, Gold Panda, Uproot Andy & Geko, and Body Language. With over 40 DJs and 6 venues it's going to be a killer party.
Hotel BPM has partnered with Spin the Vote to try to get as many people to vote in this year's election, and today is voting day. We strongly encourage everyone to go out and vote today - go on your lunch break, go after work, whenever! As long as you get out there and make your voice count. The election is so close this year and your vote can help make the difference. Encourage anyone else who is unsure of whether or not to vote that they should. Show America we do care!
In light of Sandy we've put together a list of storm themed tunes from artists including Kanye West, Missy Elliot, and Lil Wayne. If you're reading this and you've got power, enjoy the weekend - for those of you that don't - stay strong.

CMJ 2012 finished on Saturday, and now it's time to find out who stood out amongst the hundreds of performers. We've found a few who we think will go far:
This self-described music addict has a right to brag. Having written and composed her own music since a teen, she's written some amazing tunes for some of the biggest artists, including Nicki Minaj and Cassie's "The Boys." See the pic below of Anjulie this weekend at BPM.
This five-member group combines several instruments to form a style that is electronic and folky pop, similar to Psapp. Signed will Skillrex's OWSLA label, they have toured with Diplo, Skillrex, and Grimes, check out their music below.
This 20 year-old from Edinburgh has already released several songs, and could be considered an electronic genius. His electronic pop songs have a rave aesthetic and will definitely keep you moving with the beat.
We've mentioned them before, and it's with good reason too. These Swedes rocked their show at Brooklyn Bowl on Friday night and worked the crowd. Their energetic pop music is catchy and you can't help but dance along to it, see for yourself.
CMJ has gotten off to an incredible start - with reviews pouring in from the New York Times, Paste, NPR, Examiner, Billboard, and more. Start off your weekend with our top picks and get a taste of this year's greatness with the Hotel BPM Weekend Mix - CMJ Edition! Check out the the track Ghost by Sumeet which was produced by Hotel BPM founder — DJ BIJAL. Enjoy!
If you're looking for a party this Saturday where you can dance the night away and maybe even get paid, check out the Soul Clap & Dance Off at the Brooklyn Bowl. Andrew W.K. and Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls) will judge the dance off which will leave the winner $100 richer and DJ Jonathan Toubin will be playing some of the best rare soul around. Get your dancing shoes on!
The CMJ music marathon has kicked off today and there are plenty of Brooklyn-based artists hoping to leave their mark on NYC. Also In the mix at CMJ is our favorite non-BK artist Anjulie - Check out her video below along with our local picks to keep your eye on.
Anjulie - Rocking at CMJ, here's Anjulies catchy and amped up hit below:
DIIV (Formerly known as Dive): this Brooklyn band opened for Grimes this summer and their new album, Oshin, was praised by Pitchfork, Stereogum and Fuse. Their style is dreamy, guitar-driven indie rock with a great beat - definitely a band to check out!
Bear Hands: After the release of their 2007 EP "Golden," this Brooklyn quartet has opened for some big acts including MGMT, the XX, Vampire Weekend, and Le Savy Fav - this is an act not to be missed!
Prince Rama: This Brooklyn trio channels some lo-fi psychedelic, mantra-filled music, with amazing visuals - if you're a fan of Animal Collective's more off-beat songs, this group is for you!
Dead Stars: If you're looking for a blast from the past, this group from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, plays melodic alternative rock channelling the early-90s -- check out their newest single "Fractured," you'll be sure to love it.
MNDR: Although not from Brooklyn, this electronic music duo formed in NYC is not one to be missed! MNDR has been a fixture of NYC since 2009 and the performance will certainly leave a mark at CMJ!
This CMJ is set to be the best year ever, don't miss out! Check out the full schedule to see where and when all the artists are playing this week: bit.ly/CMJ_Schedule

Fall is here! Brooklyn is known as being New York's style borough, full of trendsetters with a unique sense of fashion, and this Fall is no exception. We've looked through some of our favorite Brooklyn Blogs to see what's in and found there's two big themes: Military and Big Scarves/Layering.
Big scarves are the perfect accessory as they're not only stylish but practical--they'll be sure to keep you warm as the temperature drops.
The military style is easy to pair up with any outfit and also does it's job at keeping you warm as the days grow colder.
These two trends will be sure to carry you through Fall…looking good Brooklyn!
This week we bring you a mix that will leave you wanting to rock out with a crowd big enough to fill the Barclays Center. Turn it up, close your eyes and let loose!

Who doesn't appreciate good food and excellent music? Brooklyn rules again this Saturday in Williamsburg at the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair. Here, you'll be able to find records from familiar labels including: Merge, Mexican Summer, and Warp and plenty of rare finds, too. There's good news for Flying Lotus fans, as well, because he'll be signing copies of his new album, "Until the Quiet Comes," at the Warp Records Booth.
